Testimonials

Loashi is many things, but first and foremost he is a teacher. I knew nothing when I first walked into his school; now I know just how much I don't know. I was expecting a “typical” martial arts experience and what I got was an education in personal energy, meditation, hard work, and martial spirit.

Laoshi blends very serious traditional combat forms with realistic ways to deal with conflict. Suffice to say, when Loashi says “Kung Fu for Life,” he means it.

What makes Shaolin Kung Fu Different?
The practice of Shaolin is first and foremost a spiritual discipline. Schools that claim to teach Shaolin but only teach the physical aspects of the art are not teaching authentic Shaolin, but simply "Chinese Martial Arts". Shaolin is not a religion with a set of doctrines and beliefs that one must adhere to. Rather, it is a discipline of of personal growth and training with the intent of understanding the deeper aspects of life in an experiential way.

In the Shaolin tradition, it is believed that the overemphasis on one particular aspect, such as physical capabilities, without training the spiritual aspects leads to an unbalanced, one-sided person.

Authentic Shaolin incorporates all aspects of training to encourage well-balanced development of the whole-person. The Shaolin tradition is a time-tested and proven system for personal growth. In fact, it's over 1500 years old!

Our focus is on helping people raise their level of being and not simply to acquire knowledge which may or may not improve their quality of life. One's level of being attracts one's life.

This in no way undermines self-defense value of traditional Shaolin Training! In fact, it is widely acknowledged that Shaolin practitioners are among the most sophisticated and accomplished martial artists in the world. It's the integrated training of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit that makes the true Shaolin practitioner exceptional in all areas of life, including self-defense should the need arise.
What's Required to Join?
We accept students of all ages and skill levels, however there are a few basic requirements to join and a few things you should know before making application.

1. Our focus is on training sincere people, not on "wowing" you with fancy facilities and public demonstrations. In many cases we conduct classes in parks, recreation centers, or at private residences with no "frills"... Just authentic Shaolin training.

2. The most important qualities we look for in students are; sincerity, humility, and personal integrity. Sincerity, in this context is sincerity with oneself. Humility, is a willingness to learn; even the most accomplished Shaolin practitioner always remains a humble student. Personal integrity is a quality of personal-responsibility. Your instructor can only show you new training and help you correct mistakes, they can not make you practice or develop your skill for you. That's your responsibility.

3. All new students, regardless of prior training, must go through a probationary period. Nothing worth learning comes quickly or without sacrifice. This is a universal law which every student understands in time. In keeping with our longstanding tradition, each new student is closely observed before being guided into the deeper aspects of the art. All new students start at the beginning. As you progress, more opportunities to train in advanced skills will open to you. Patience and humility are the the key.
