What makes Shaolin Kung Fu Different? The practice of Shaolin is first and foremost a spiritual discipline. Schools that claim to teach Shaolin but only teach the physical aspects of the art are not teaching authentic Shaolin, but simply "Chinese Martial Arts". Shaolin is not a religion with a set of doctrines and beliefs that one must adhere to. Rather, it is a discipline of of personal growth and training with the intent of understanding the deeper aspects of life in an experiential way.
In the Shaolin tradition, it is believed that the overemphasis on one particular aspect, such as physical capabilities, without training the spiritual aspects leads to an unbalanced, one-sided person.
Authentic Shaolin incorporates all aspects of training to encourage well-balanced development of the whole-person. The Shaolin tradition is a time-tested and proven system for personal growth. In fact, it's over 1500 years old!
Our focus is on helping people raise their level of being and not simply to acquire knowledge which may or may not improve their quality of life. One's level of being attracts one's life.
This in no way undermines self-defense value of traditional Shaolin Training! In fact, it is widely acknowledged that Shaolin practitioners are among the most sophisticated and accomplished martial artists in the world. It's the integrated training of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit that makes the true Shaolin practitioner exceptional in all areas of life, including self-defense should the need arise.
